Bimbarent prepared tips, life hacks for food on board when renting a catamaran or yacht in Kyiv / Odessa. We will tell you about two formats: for an hourly rental with & without catering, and for a weekly charter at sea.
What to take with you from food while walking on the water?
If it is a small sailboat, then take a set of ready-made light snacks, fruits or dishes that do not require cutlery and reheat food before eating. Also check with the owner before renting if the yacht has a refrigerator. For example, you can put perishable foods in the freezer / further cool drinks. Also avoid products with specific, long-lasting odors.
If we are talking about 40-foot vessels and more, where there is already a galley (kitchen) on board, then take dishes with you that also do not require any special troubles on board))). For example, these are canapes, sushi, pizza, pies, fruit slices, cheese slices, ready-made portioned salads, etc. A bonus would be the presence of a full-fledged dining table, a kettle, possibly a coffee maker.

8 best ideas for breakfast & lunch on a yacht
- Seasonal fruits: The first thing to think about is seasonal fruits plus berries (e.g. strawberries, cherries, melon, blueberries, grapes, cranberries, raspberries, mulberries, pears, etc.). But don’t forget that fruit should be combined with other dishes.

- Vegan + vegetarian appetizers on a yacht. Hummus, guacamole will be great options for dips (sauces) paired with Mexican nachos chips either rectangular vegetables (carrots, celery stalk, cucumber).
- Pastries. Any kind. Delicate croissants, Portuguese pate de nata cakes with a creamy flavor, or a cinnabon drowning in sweet cinnamon glaze. I hope you’re not reading this hungry, because I’m continuing… Quiche with crispy dough and juicy filling (cheese, spinach); thin Armenian lavash baked with tender pumpkin, caramelized onions plus aromatic spices; khachapuri with melted suluguni cheese; Charlotte with apples, sprinkled with cinnamon, nuts and raisins; delicate tart with caramelized pears; a combination of tender oatmeal dough, juicy cherries & dark chocolate pieces.

4 tasty hot cocktails on a yacht
The first thing I would like to warn you about is to take plenty of water with you. Dehydration is a common problem during prolonged exposure to the sun, not only for children but also for adults.

And now, a few popular cocktails for yachting vacations:
- Classic Mojito: Mix fresh lime juice, mint leaves, a little sweet syrup plus rum. Stir in a shaker, add ice and sparkling water. Pour into glasses.
- Fruit sangria: Mix your favorite fruits (oranges, apples, other berries), wine, brandy, and spices to taste. Leave in the refrigerator until the next day. Serve with ice.
- Paloma: A juicy cocktail made from tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice & soda water. Serve on the rocks.
- Non-alcoholic options. For children / adults, you can make a refreshing drink: fill a pitcher with water, add slices of lemon or ginger, cucumber, fresh mint. Leave it in the fridge for a few hours.
And most importantly: do not forget about responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages while chiling. Take a responsible captain either appoint a skipper among your friends who will be responsible for safe sailing and fun for your company on board.
Grilling on a boat. What to cook?
Bake dorado with lemons with spices, make shrimp in tempura, grill a lamb kebab, or assemble your own burger with a juicy cutlet, fresh vegetables, dried buns, and your favorite sauce. Well, isn’t that a reason to rent a yacht & spend time?

Grills on yachts can be charcoal, gas, or electric. Ask the owner in advance if there is everything you need for a barbecue: enough propane, charcoal, or a working electrical connection.
By the way, many motoryachts are equipped with a barbecue (check the equipment options in each listing).
Rules for grilling while boating
- Use the grill only when the boat is at anchor or in the parking lot of a yacht club.
- Keep children away from the grill. When it is on and operating, never leave it unattended.
- The grill must be installed away from flammable materials & boat-fabrics.
- If you have a charcoal grill, make sure that charcoal residue does not fall on the floor or other flammable surfaces. If you are using a gas, be sure to check the connection to the cylinder before lighting it.
- Never throw ashes either coals overboard after grilling.
- When you are finished cooking, turn off it and allow it to cool before carelessly leaving the cooking area.
Also, on large motor yachts, catering is ordered on board. Usually this is one waiter who delivers snacks and pours alcohol. Since there is a stove, oven, grill \ microwave on board, you can definitely warm up the food. On vip yachts, also specify the number of refrigerators, as there are times when there is nowhere to place all the water & alcohol. The presence of a working icemaker will be an indisputable plus when choosing a boat. Do not forget also that you can always take a special refrigerator box with you on board, which keeps the cold for 3-6 hours. Also remember that red wine is contraindicated for a teak deck. So try to be careful.

A week of rest on a yacht or catamaran at sea
So, you have already stocked up in the supermarket, ran around the local markets and are at the gangway. You have a dozen or two bags, a dozen packs of water plus the same amount of alcohol. All this needs to be packed into a limited space on the yacht, so that nothing gets in the way, does not break – is accessible without effort. What to do?
First, there was no need to buy so much food. Upon arrival, do not go to the supermarket hungry. In this case, you usually buy 30% more products than you need. By the end of the rest, this third deteriorates and is thrown away. Tip number two: don’t try to stock up for the entire holiday period. Make a purchase of food for 2-3 days, water for 4-5. Firstly, a huge amount of food always leads to its spoilage. Secondly, a huge amount of personal supplies ties you to a meal on board – deprives you of new gastronomic discoveries in local restaurants. Thirdly, almost all tourist marinas have supermarkets, bakeries, bars & cafes. You won’t go hungry! The refrigerator on the yacht will be replenished only with fresh products.

How to store food on yacht?!
So, for the first time you are standing with groceries on the ladder. The first thing to do is get rid of the extra outer packaging. For example, thick plastic from blocks of cans, cardboard boxes and other retail packaging, which makes it difficult to tightly fold food in the refrigerator or utility niches.
As a rule, the loading of food supplies is carried out in a hurry before going to sea. Therefore, before laying out, determine a “freelance cook” who will remember where everything is, – write a list of products (or save receipts).
Everything that is in a glass container should be placed either in special holders or in the free space under the beds. Between the glass is usually something soft. All other food sensitive to shaking and impacts is folded in the central part of the vessel.
Fruits plus tender vegetables are usually displayed on nets in the interior of the ship. Mesh promotes ventilation and longer storage of supplies. Potatoes & other hard vegetables are stored under payols. By the way, you may not know, but tomatoes can be stored next to plums, also avocados with kiwi. What you should not put with each other is pineapple with kiwi \ avocado, potatoes either onions, potatoes and lemons.
What to take for styling products?
Non-slip paper for the bottom and shelves of lockers, paper towels, napkins, sponges, freezer bags of various sizes – plastic food containers with sealed lids. Also bring insect repellant, cockroach/ant traps.
What dishes are available on the rental boat?
When renting for a week, check the list of kitchen utensils and utensils. Check the real condition of forks, spoons, plates, glasses, pots, pans (+ saucepan, kettle, coffee maker either cezve, salad bowl, can key, corkscrew, ladle, grater, knives, cutting boards, cups, glasses; grill grate plus 2 baking sheets ). Usually, in case of loss / damage to an item from galley property, a fine will be charged.
If you are taking your dishes with you, it is advisable to carry something made of unbreakable and non-slip plastic. This will reduce the number of injuries on board.
