Private jet charter: prices from hourly to long-term
Along with the growing demand for small aircraft, there is a growing interest in renting private jets in Ukraine. Bimbarent will tell how the charter price is formed, how save on a flight, and is there any point in long-term business jet rental?
How the price for a flight is formed. Examples
We wanted to note that today we are talking about business aviation, and not about small. In a light, the cost is calculated based on the trip duration, the number of passengers, the price per hour (on average, renting a Cessna 172 for 4 passengers costs from $260/hour).
Medium-sized private jets do not take into account the number of guests on board, but take into account other factors:
- hourly rate, which differs during the year;
- flight hours;
- board downtime while waiting for passengers;
- fuselage treatment with anti-icing composition (from 900 euros);
- Fuel consumption. For example, business jet consumes a ton of fuel per hour;
- Catering;
- Assistance in passing airport procedures;
- Air taxes at the airport of landing;
- Other special customer requirements.
For example, renting an “Beechcraft Premier I” light jet in Kyiv cost $3,000 per hour. Number of passengers on board is 6, the cruise speed is 840 km/h. Or the Gulfstream G200 for 10 people the price is $5,500 / fly hour. By the way, sometimes a commercial business class group flight is more expensive than a charter.
By the way, an indisputable advantage of charters is the transportation of oversized and non-standard cargoes, which are difficult or impossible to transport using a regular flight.
How to save money on plane rental and maintain comfort on board
- Choose a 10-year-old plane. They have modern technical equipment, an updated interior and a much lower cost than “three-year-old”.
- use a lesser known airport for landing. For example, difference between London and the suburbs could be $2,000.
- The price is always calculated for the maximum number of passengers. Fly with friends who can share the cost.
- If the flight is short, then you can save a little on catering.
There are two more options that greatly reduce the price of flying on a private jet, but, unfortunately, they are not very popular in Ukraine, since there is no data exchange.
Flight sharing
You can redeem seats. For example, someone flies from the Dnieper to Geneva and sell 4 seats. You do not pay the entire charter, but only the number of seats you occupy.
Empty Legs
This is an opportunity to use a private jet that returns without passengers to the base airport. On average, such rental is 30% cheaper, and there are times when the discount is 70%.
Order conditions:
- The price is fixed for the number of passengers, includes getting into the VIP and business lounges, a minimum of in-flight catering, as well as taxes.
- Additional services, like de-icing (500-2000 €), are not included.
- Each passenger must have a valid passport, visa, medical certificate, or other document.
- The transportation of animals must be agreed upon with the manager in advance.
- Smoking on board is forbidden.
- In some cases, the airplane can be replaced by an equivalent aircraft class.
What are best conditions for long-term aircraft rental?
If you or your company spends more than 40 hours per month on flights (30 hours for light planes), in this case is taken on a long-term lease – a minimum number of flying hours per month is paid. If you have flown less, the hours burns out. If more, you pay the difference.
The fly hour cost includes: airplane, crew work, fuel, partial airport taxes. For example, renting a 14-year-old business jet for 6 seats will be $50,000 per month.
What is not included: catering, treatment of the aircraft with anti-icing agents, parking at airports outside the home, downtime while waiting for passengers.
Advantages of a long-term lease: the aircraft is, as it were, assigned to you and this allows you to organize a flight 2-4 hours after the request. Also, you do not waste time and money on maintenance, crew training, insurance, paying taxes.
